Ryan was born and raised in beautiful North Vancouver, BC - the mountain range found on his logo is an actual replica of the three North Shore mountains (Seymour, Grouse, and Cypress).
He started his career in the kitchen of a golf course at the age of 15. He officially turned professional when he graduated as a Red Seal Chef from Dubrulle French Culinary School in 2003. After his apprenticeship at Parkside in Vancouver, BC, Ryan moved to London, England, UK, to further his culinary skillset. Spending two years in the UK, he earned the junior Sous Chef role at both La Trompette and Zafferano where each restaurant also respectfully won Michelin stars.
Ryan returned home to Vancouver in 2007 with the opportunity to open and run Pied-a-Terre on Cambie Street. During his time there as chef de cuisine, they won “Best Casual French” for five years straight (2007-2011), in Vancouver Magazine.
In 2011, Ryan wanted a change from working evenings and weekends, which is when he transitioned into his film-catering career. He took matters into his own hands in 2017, and here we have: Aurora Catering Inc.
"I love the freedom of seasonality. I like what BC has to offer for food, there’s so much great fish and the produce that comes out of the Fraser Valley and the Okanagan is awesome. I like cooking a good, hearty meal, that people are going to sit down and enjoy, feeling satisfied once they leave." - Ryan.
